This page is to help inform the Managers, Coaches and Board Members what the Safe Sport Act is about and what to expect during the Certification process.



What is the Safe Sport Act?
-The Safe Sport Act expands existing mandated youth abuse reporting laws and requires awareness training for adults interacting with children on behalf of a youth sports organization.


Why is RYBSA making the Certification Mandatory?
-Sports organizations must “offer and provide consistent training to all adult members who are in regular contact with amateur athletes who are minors, and subject to parental consent, to members who are minors regarding prevention and reporting of child abuse…”

It is important to note that the type of training contemplated under the Act is not merely to identify those who may already have been victimized by abuse by a list of indicators. Instead it is to learn how to prevent sexual abuse from occurring. In other words, the training must be proactive rather than reactive.

In order to be in compliance with the Safe Sports Act and meet the specifications of Babe Ruth League’s mandatory background screening all organizations are required to take the certification.

How much does the test cost?
-The cost of the test is $25.50.

How long is the Certification good for?
-It is good for 2-years.

I coach other sports in town, do I have to take it?
-YES, the test is mandatory for RYBSA, but the certificate is good for other sports in Raynham too.

How many questions is on the test and what is a passing score?
-There are 25 questions and a score of 70% or higher is passing.

What is the website to become certified?

2. Login with your SportsEngine account or if you don’t have one, create one

3. Click on Get Membership

4. Click on You (Account Owner)

5. Enter Info and Click Next

6. Select your Membership type then click Next

7. Accept Acknowledgement then click Submit

8. Click on Continue to Payment

9. Click Continue to MySportsEngine

10. Click Complete Certification to do the abuse prevention training and test.  If you have not yet completed your background check you will need to do so at this point and pay or use the promo code emailed via director of league.

How do I prove I completed the training?
-You are REQUIRED to email or print your certification and deliver to the VP of Baseball or Softball.
